Loyal and dogged are the perfect words to describe a golden retriever in China who walked 62 miles over two weeks to be reunited with her family.

A family living in the eastern city of Qidong decided to temporarily relocate their dog ahead of a home renovation. They drove the 1-year-old pup named Ping An—which translates to “Safe” in English—to a friend’s house in Nantong.

Two weeks ago, after four months of separation, the family learned that their beloved dog had run away from her temporary home. Using only her memory of the car ride to Nantong, Ping An walked all the way home.

According to Jianghai Evening News, Ping An showed up at the gate of Hanwha New Energy Co. on Oct. 26 with noticeable paw injuries from her long trek. Workers gave her food, treated her wounds, and spread the word about the pup who'd been found. Rescuers described the dog as looking sad, likely because she couldn’t find her owners, the Daily Mail reports.

Photos of Ping An shared on the messaging platform WeChat thankfully reached her original owners. Although she had lost weight, they immediately recognized her. The family quickly brought proof of ownership to where Ping An was being cared for. The reunion included many hugs.

“Ping An, you’ve worked hard. You just stay home from now on. [We] would never send you away,” her owner says in a video that was shared across Chinese media. The mother and daughter repeatedly told Jianghai Evening News that Ping An is smart, loyal, and will never be separated from them again in her life.
